How does someone become a CASA volunteer?
CASA volunteer applicants are required to:
- attend an information/orientation meeting
- complete a written application
- participate in a personal
interview with staff
- provide personal references
- submit to a child protection and criminal background check, which includes being fingerprinted
- successfully complete over 30 hours of classroom training, including homework and court
observations prior to being assigned a case.
Please
note: Any applicant found
to have been convicted of, or having charges pending for, a felony or
misdemeanor involving a sex offense, child abuse/neglect, or related acts that
would pose risks to children or damage the CASA program’s credibility will not be accepted as a CASA
volunteer.
In addition to the core (pre-service)
training, CASA volunteers are required to complete 12 hours of
continuing education (in-service) annually. All required training is provided free of
charge.
